Torque Pilot Operated Relief Valve

The input and exit ports of the main valve are controlled by a self-contained device called a Torque pilot-operated relief valve (PORV). It is also referred to as a Torque pilot-operated relief valve for pressure or pilot-operated safety valve.

When a rising fluid in a tank gets hot and raises the pressure to insecure levels, PORVs are utilized for emergency relief during the overpressure incidents. Their utilization of a pressure balance to regulate a bigger internal spool has earned them the title of "balanced relief valves."
